Hi and thanks for visiting Barwon Residential Fencing (BR Fencing, for short).
My name is Grant ‘the Kiwi’ Finlayson and I am the proud owner operator of this highly regarded small business, which I founded in 2003 to service the Greater Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula region.
Prior to running my own business, I learned the fencing trade from an early age growing up on the land in rugged New Zealand country, and it’s been running through my veins ever since.
Since I launched my own business 20 years ago, the demand for BR Fencing as a local service provider of choice for high quality residential fences on the Peninsula has exponentially evolved. We are now one of the most highly sought after domestic fencing firms in the region, and more recently have added a growing number of major commercial fencing contracts to our portfolio of works.
My 35+ years experience in fencing has taught me the most important indicators for the longevity of a fence are the quality of materials used in its construction, and the quality of the workers installing it. I can confidently say Barwon Residential Fencing delivers both.
I personally oversee and work alongside my tight and dynamic team of highly skilled, reliable and efficient fencers who I have trained myself and value tremendously for their hard work and professional ethics.
It goes without saying that material quality is paramount to producing a stand-out, superior fence. I source mine from a network of trusted and reliable timber merchants in the region, who I know will always source the best available on the market.
I have a real soft spot for Cypress posts, because it is so good at resisting warping and twisting. It also has naturally insect and fungus resistant oils within it, which negates the use of heavy chemicals.
When it comes to the design of fences, I love a challenge and am immensely proud of the many unique fences I have been commissioned to build. I work with my clients to understand their vision and create a design that is both aesthetically awesome and structurally sound.

Farm gates custom made by me are simple yet striking as an entry or side gate. I measure up and create these gates to suit my client’s requirements. The more I make, the more requests I get to create another personalised farm gate to enhance their fences … …learn more
